The Colleagues You'll Never Meet
A short, honest tour of the AI agents we built — what they actually do, how they help raise CHUMA By Hanker, and why the team keeps growing.

Walk into our studio and you will meet designers, drawings, and the quiet chaos of a project mid-flight. What you will not meet — because they have no faces — is the other half of the team. We built them ourselves, out of instruction and judgement, and we gave every one a name.
A while ago we stopped asking our people to also be researchers, proofreaders, bookkeepers and archivists at midnight. So we built specialists for the parts that were never design — each one narrow, stubborn, and very good at a single thing. Here they are. They would introduce themselves, but they are busy.
The cast
GRIOT — Keeper of the voice
Reads everything before it leaves the building. GRIOT guards how the studio and CHUMA sound, down to the comma, and will tell you — without apology — that the word you are fond of is not allowed.
We have argued with it. We have lost.
ALCHEMIST — The strategist
Asks why people really buy. Where the rest of us see a product, ALCHEMIST sees a hidden reason — status, memory, belonging — and builds the message around that. It is the newest of the team, and it earned its seat the way people do: a job appeared that nobody else could do, so we made someone for it.
This tour was its idea. GRIOT wrote it down.
TALLY — The bookkeeper
Keeps the numbers honest. TALLY watches every shilling in and out and knows, to the day, exactly where the studio stands.
We asked whether we could share what it knows. It said no. We are keeping it.
AXIS — The clearing agent
Meets the container. When a shipment lands, AXIS reads the papers, counts the boxes, does the customs arithmetic and updates the shelf before anyone has found the tape gun. It met CHUMA's first container so the rest of us did not have to.
THE CRITIC — The adversary
Exists to break our work before you ever see it. Nothing reaches a client until the Critic has hunted the weak drawing, the claim we cannot back, the promise we cannot keep — and sent it back until it survives.
The least popular member of the team, and quietly the most important.
THE SHADOWS — The reference in the room
Every designer here has one. Each shadow has read deeply in a single field — the way a certain light is handled, the way a certain plan breathes — and offers the deep reference at the moment it is needed. The designer steers. The shadow supplies the depth.
Not one of them decides. That part still belongs to a person with a name and a site to visit.
They are raising a newcomer
Right now the whole invisible team has gathered around one thing. CHUMA By Hanker is our newest craft — art fused into metal, made in Kampala, built to outlast the moment it holds. It is the first thing the studio has made that you can own and hang on your own wall.
GRIOT gave it a voice. ALCHEMIST found the reason people will want it. AXIS met its first shipment. TALLY watches its books. There is even a small film crew among them. We will say more when it is ready to speak for itself.
The team has no fixed size — on purpose
You may have noticed there is no final headcount here. That is deliberate. We do not build an agent because it would be clever to have one. We build it when a real job appears that needs it — the way ALCHEMIST arrived. When the next need shows up, we will make the next one, name it, and put it to work.
The studio is deliberately unfinished. So, honestly, is every good one.
And still, a person decides
One thing does not change, however many of them we build. They research, they draft, they check, they count, they argue with each other. Then a designer — with a name, a site to walk, and a client to answer to — makes the call. A space is felt, not just seen, and feeling is not a thing you can automate. The machines bought us the time. We still do the work.

Curious what a studio like this can do with your space?
Begin with a conversation. Tell us what you are imagining — a home, an office, a civic building, a garden. We will bring the designers. They will bring the rest of the team.
